A quick tour

When you login to the admin area you’ll land on the dashboard, with a little info about the current status.

In the menu on the left are Posts, Media, Pages, Products, Analytics, Site Kit and Settings.

Posts – This is where your upcoming gigs appear when you email them in. You can delete or amend any of these if you wish. There is also a News category if you want to publish something non-giggy.

Media – Any image you upload can be found here. You don’t need to go here to upload or insert an image onto a post or page, you can do it from there.

Pages – These are the static pages on your website. They can be edited if you wish.

Products – Anything you want up for sale goes here. It’s a slightly technical process, so I’m happy to add things for you.

Analytics – Displays data about sales. About as interesting as reading the Financial Times, but it’s there if you want to look.

Site Kit – Slightly more interesting, as it displays data about site visitors and the like. You’ll find a summary on the dashboard.

Settings – STAY AWAY!

How to email writing

Publishing a post by email is straightforward. Please note that you can only post by email to one site at a time. If you try to post to multiple emails at once, only the first one will be used.

When writing a new email, the subject line will be used as your post’s title, and the email body will be used as the post’s content.

Your email can be plain text or formatted. Be aware that the Post by Email system will strip any HTML tags that it thinks will interfere with a post’s display on your site. For example, italic and bold formatting will be retained, but colour and font changes will not.

List of things to include:

Subject (the title of the piece of writing)

IMPORTANT: begin the subject with {writing}: for example:
{writing}: Rosie Is A Goldmine

Body (the poem or lyrics)

Attach an image of the piece of writing/scribble to the email.

Send the email to the secret address given to you and wait for it to process (it should only take 5 minutes or so). You should have the address written down somewhere, but if not you can find it in the draft page called ‘Secret Email Address’. DO NOT publish that page!

How to add an upcoming gig

Posting a gig is similar to posting writing, only you need to include some HTML!

List of things to include:

Subject (the date of the gig)

IMPORTANT: begin the subject with {gigs}: like the following:
{gigs}: Friday 8 November 2024

Body (where, the line-up, tickets)

IMPORTANT: you need to include some HTML, like the following:

<p>Bristol, BS5 – The Greenbank. Supporting Henry Parker and David Ian Roberts</p><p><a href="TICKET_SOURCE">Tickets</a></p><p>&nbsp;</p>

Copy and paste the above, then change the TICKET_SOURCE to the link URL, for example: https://wegottickets.com/event/628576/ if there are tickets, otherwise delete it and change ‘Tickets’ to either ‘Donation’ or ‘Free Entry’

Attach a suitable image to the email and it will autopost to Instagram (as well as Facebook).

Send the email to the secret address given to you and wait for it to process (it should only take 5 minutes or so). You should have the address written down somewhere, but if not you can find it in the draft page called ‘Secret Email Address’. DO NOT publish that page!
